United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) has solidified its renewable energy commitment through a landmark CPPA with Fengmiao I Offshore Wind Farm, a project led by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). The agreement guarantees UMC over 30 billion kWh of clean energy for 30 years, marking the company’s largest renewable energy transaction to date.
UMC’s Ambitious Net Zero Strategy
This agreement supports UMC’s accelerated sustainability goals: 50% renewable energy by 2030 and 100% by 2050. Vice President TS Wu highlighted its significance:
“This landmark power purchase agreement demonstrates our commitment to sustainable development and contributes to UMC’s carbon reduction goals and ESG vision.”
UMC has already surpassed its original 2030 goal of a 25% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions, achieving a 26% reduction by 2023. As a result, the company has revised its target to a 42% reduction, further advancing its net zero roadmap.
