- Partnership brings reusable cups to Levi’s Stadium, cutting tens of thousands of single-use cups this NFL season
- First California rollout for Bold Reuse, marking a key expansion in its national sports partnerships
- PepsiCo tests reuse initiatives despite dropping its formal packaging reuse target earlier this year
PepsiCo, Bold Reuse, and the San Francisco 49ers have teamed up to introduce reusable cups at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The initiative kicked off during a preseason game on August 9 in premium club areas and is expected to eliminate the need for tens of thousands of disposable cups across the 49ers’ 10 home games this season.
It’s PepsiCo’s first reusable cup project with an NFL franchise—an effort that follows the company’s decision to sunset its formal target of delivering 20% of beverage servings via reusable models by 2030. Reuse is now part of PepsiCo’s broader packaging goal: ensuring 97% of primary and secondary packaging in key markets is recyclable, compostable, or reusable.
“Advancing reuse requires collaboration and a systemic shift to help make the reusable option the most convenient and accessible option for consumers to enjoy their beverage,” said Burgess Davis, chief sustainability officer for PepsiCo North America. He added, “Initiatives like this can provide important insights into how that shift can become a reality at scale while having an immediate impact in reducing waste.”

The Levi’s Stadium program also marks Bold Reuse’s first deployment in California. “In 2026, reusables for foodservice packaging and beyond will be offered by major brands, supported by regional reverse logistics infrastructure and a citywide consumer campaign in California,” the Center for the Circular Economy at Closed Loop Partners said in a related update.
Bold Reuse has expanded its footprint this year, from the Spectrum Center with the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets to NFL stadiums like Soldier Field in Chicago, where it works with Keurig Dr Pepper. The company is also piloting RFID technology with Avery Dennison in Portland to better track reusable cup lifecycles.
