- Vision 2030 Support: Advances Saudi Arabia’s sustainability goals and circular economy initiatives.
Aramco, TotalEnergies, and the Saudi Investment Recycling Company (SIRC) have joined forces to evaluate the development of a sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) plant in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and its Green Initiative, which prioritize sustainability and emissions reduction.
Meeting Growing Aviation Demands
Amin H. Nasser, President & CEO of Aramco, emphasized the importance of reducing aviation emissions:
“With demand for air travel forecast to grow, it’s becoming imperative to address aviation emissions through lower-carbon alternatives. Addressing transport emissions requires a wide range of approaches, and Aramco is pursuing a number of potential innovative solutions.”
The plant would utilize waste from the circular economy, such as used cooking oils and animal fats, to produce SAF, benefiting both domestic and international airlines as Saudi Arabia’s tourism and aviation sectors expand.
