Aramco, Linde, and SLB Partner to Build One of the Largest CCS Hubs Globally

  • Phase One Capacity: The Jubail CCS hub will capture and store up to 9 million metric tons of CO₂ annually by 2027.
  • Net-Zero Goals: The project supports Aramco’s aim for net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050 and a 15% reduction in upstream carbon intensity by 2035.
  • Global Collaboration: The hub highlights the role of international partnerships in advancing decarbonization technologies.

Aramco, Linde, and SLB have signed a shareholders’ agreement to develop one of the world’s largest Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) hubs in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. The project, a cornerstone of Aramco’s decarbonization strategy, aligns with the Kingdom’s 2060 net-zero goals and represents a circular carbon economy approach to emissions reduction.

Phase One Impact:

The CCS hub’s first phase, expected to be operational by 2027, will capture up to 9 million metric tons of CO₂ annually from Aramco’s gas plants and industrial sources. The CO₂ will be transported through a pipeline network and stored in a saline aquifer sink, leveraging Saudi Arabia’s geological potential. Future phases will expand the hub’s capacity.
